We would like to congratulate Sylo for being chosen the HKC player of the month!
Always in Stealth mode we weren’t sure how this silent yet deadly player would react to being exposed as the world renowned deadly gaming machine we know him to be. Below is the interview which was conducted by our own HK Emil on the promise that we hide his true identity and to maintain silence on his secret gaming tactics he has learned on his journey to the deep and challenging underworld of TF2. Congrats Sylo!
Q: How long have you been gaming and what was the first game you really got addicted too?
A: I think one of the first games i played would be Sonic the hedgehog 2 on the Sega, i guess i was around 4 years old. Although i also remember playing some game on a Macintosh, i think it was called lemmings? I'm not sure if i played that before of after sonic, so it might even been younger then 4. Now i think about it, i might just have been watching my brother play things before sonic. since sonic had multiplayer i could play it as well, I was always playing as Tails. Ehm, right, better go to the second part of the question before i tell my whole life story haha. Lets see, the first game i got addicted to. Hitman codename 47, The Sims, Counter strike are some of them, but going back in time even more. Hmm, Lego island? no wait, Twisted metal world tour on the PS1, that's got to be the first. That game was great fun.
Q: What originally brought you to HK's TF2 servers and why did you stay?
A: Well I got TF2 from the orange box, i bought it for everything except TF2. So i didn’t play it until quite some time after buying it. When i started i was abit scared, because i thought i would suck at the game. The last online shooter i played was counter strike, which was about 3-5 years ago at that point. So i went to look for a newbie server, first server i played was a 24/7 2fort server. Now I do like 2fort, but playing nothing but that? No thanks. So the second server i ever played on was, Yes that’s right, TF2 newbies only. One of the first people i remember talking was Arty, i remember this because he was quoting something from Idiots of Gary’s mod (youtube) which was one of the things that actually made me start playing TF2. Overall the people playing on the server were nice and fun to play with. At the start there were of course the occasional players (Mosin, Chicken) that made me almost angry that they were playing on a newbie server. But in time i understood why they played here, because the community is awesome! :D The Community events are really one of my favorite things, i loved playing them through all these years. Its a shame they get less popular nowadays.
Q What's your favorite map, and why?
A: I think that would be cp_Steel. I just love how the map gives you so many different routes to attack, some being unlocked or locked when capping points. And also the last point that you can cap at any time, it makes defense abit trickier.
Q: What's your favorite class and why?
A: That's a difficult question for me, I really like playing every class. I got a 100+ hours on each class, but I guess some are abit more fun than others. I like the Scout for its speed and mobility, especially with the Atomizer and Force of Nature, it makes you able to attack in ways that previously only soldiers and demo's could. The Engineer is great too, especially offensively. Picking up a level 3 sentry and put it close to the enemy while your team pushes with an uber is a fun thing to do and can really help your team out alot. The Spy is another that I really like, being sneaky and tricking your enemy, i love it. The dead ringer is fun to use sometimes, but with the standard watch you can move around alot faster, picking up metal as you go along. I haven't touched the cloak and dagger in ages. The Pyro is good too, very nice for support, pushing back uber, checking for spies, reflecting things and can even unsap buildings. In combat i feel I’m better off switching weapons for combo damage rather then the "W + M1" tactic, whenever i try to kill someone with the flamethrower it feel like I’m burning them for 2 seconds straight, then they kill me and still have over half their health left. The Medic feels very rewarding, you really feel as an important part of the team. As medic I’m probably most on edge of all classes, got to watch for players with low health, prioritize who to heal, keep players over healed as much as possible, look out of spies, know when to leave your patient for dead, the list goes on and on.
Q: And what do you consider your worst class to be?
A: It used to be the Demo, but when the demo unlocks came out i was having fun playing demoknight. Playing that alot made me better with pipebombs, but I’m still not that good with stickies. Nowadays I feel more like i have off days with certain classes. When im not playing well with a certain class, i just keep switching classes until I find something I can play.
Q: What is your favourite weapon unlock?
A: With the new holiday unlocks just out, i think my favourite now would be the Holiday Punch. Geting players to laugh is just so funny, im sure alot of people hate those gloves haha.
Q: And which unlock do you think should never have been added into the game?
A: The Persian Persuader, Bane of Arena. In arena play this weapon is just way to powerful. There's few to no health packs in arena maps, but lots of ammo packs. Also i still feel they should have switched the 100% charge recharge with the increased turning of the Wee Booties. That would keep the set the same and make the sword alot less powerful.
Q: When in a game, what is the most annoying thing your team can do or not do?
A: 4 snipers 3 spies and 2 scouts, that sort of thing. I dont mind losing, as long as its a good fight. So having a class composition that just wont work can really annoy me, although sometimes it does work, but that’s a rare case.
Q: What single thing do you think they could add to TF2 to make it even better?
A: I guess what I’d like to see is more maps like Steel, where there are multiple routes to attack and flank. Also I’d like to see Arena as an option in the "Start playing" option when starting the game. Arena is a game mode valve introduced, its not like its a mod or anything. It feels like not alot of people like arena, but not seeing that option for new players makes me feel sad, because I’m sure there's people who will realy like it.
Q: That's all the questions I have for you, is there anything you would like to add or say to our readers?
A: Play as a team but dont take the game to serious, having fun it the most important thing. Thats what makes this game so much better then any other online shooter I’ve played. Its funny, the taunts are fun, the voices of the classes are so brilliantly done and so funny. And of course the community in play in is fun! Being bored of my games and thinking "guess I’ll try this team fortress 2 out" was one of the best decisions in my live.
Q: Congratulations on being picked mate, you deserve it :D
A: Thanks! I wasn’t expecting I’d get picked as i'm a pretty silent player. I probably typed more in this interview then i have in all the time i played tf2 haha. Well maybe not, but its close :P
